Dow rises more than 100 points in rebound from 3-year low, tech and energy shares lead; European shares close 3% higher in rocky session after ECB, BOE stimulus

Stocks closed higher Thursday, erasing steep losses from earlier in the day as strong gains in big-tech shares led to a sharp turnaround. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 188.27 points, or nearly 1% to 20,087.19. The S&P 500 was up 0.5% at 2,409.39 while the Nasdaq Composite outperformed with a 2.3% surge to 7,150.58. Shares of Netflix and Facebook rose 5.3% and 4.2%, respectively. Amazon gained 2.8%.
Among the industries trading in positive territory Thursday was energy, with the S&P sector up more than 6%. Big oil producers like Diamondback Energy and Apache rose more than 11% each as futures contracts tied to the price of West Texas Intermediate crude rallied 23%, its biggest one-day move ever.
European markets closed higher Thursday, after fluctuating for much of the session, with investors monitoring the coronavirus outbreak and digesting new policy announcements from the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Bank of England (BOE). The pan-European Stoxx 600 closed up 2.9% after rebounding either side of the flatline throughout the day. Telecoms stocks jumped 5% to lead gains while basic resources fell 0.4%.
At the bottom of the Stoxx 600, Osram Licht shares fell 20% amid ongoing doubt over its takeover by chipmaker AMS.

AERO: Works at Belgrade Airport in progress despite coronavirus

The works at the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport are in progress despite the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 virus, which has had a considerable impact on the number of passengers at the airport and its income. Despite the state of emergency in Serbia and the introduction of a state-wide curfew, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said that all the infrastructural projects were in progress in line with the schedule and that there would be no delays. The Terminal 2 building is currently being expanded and Gate C, which will feature additional jet bridges, is being extended. Two integrated terminals of the airport will be expanded by 42,000 m2. Furthermore the airport is currently in the process of construction of a new waiting room on the ground floor, with a capacity of 140 passengers.

NBS: Inflation expectations remain stable

According to the February survey, short- and medium-term inflation expectations of the financial and corporate sectors continued to move within the target band (3±1.5%). One-year ahead inflation expectations of the financial and corporate sectors stayed unchanged from January, at 2.0%. The financial sector medium-term inflation expectations dropped slightly from January, reaching 2.3% in February, while corporates kept their expectations unchanged at 2.0%.
